One of the biggest mistakes we see is using too much product. With Bilt Hamber, more does not mean better. These products are designed to work at specific ratios. Get that right, and you achieve maximum cleaning performance, better coverage, and safer results.
When you see a ratio like 1:10, it means:
So 100ml product + 1000ml water.

Bilt Hamber products rely on Panel Impact Ratio (PIR), which is the actual strength of product hitting the panel after the foam lance adds its second dilution stage. The mix inside the bottle is not the final strength.
This is a one-time calibration for your foam lance and pressure washer setup.
Fill your foam lance bottle with exactly 1000 ml of clean water using a measuring jug.
Set the foam lance to maximum product draw. Keep this setting consistent every wash.
Spray the full bottle into a bucket and measure the total liquid collected.
Example:
1000 ml in → 12,000 ml out
This means your setup has a 12:1 dilution
Use this formula:
Product ml = Total output × (PIR ÷ 100)
| PIR Level | Calculation | Product Needed |
|---|---|---|
| 4% (Auto-Foam heavy clean) | 12,000 × 0.04 | 480 ml |
| 2% (Touch-Less standard) | 12,000 × 0.02 | 240 ml |
| 1% (light clean) | 12,000 × 0.01 | 120 ml |
| 0.5% (maintenance wash) | 12,000 × 0.005 | 60 ml |
You now have the correct PIR hitting the panel.
Correct PIR means:
Thick foam does not mean effective cleaning. Correct PIR does.

| Product | Image | Category | Application Method | Dilution / PIR | How to Measure | When to Use Stronger | When to Use Weaker | Key Technical Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bilt Hamber Auto Foam | ![]() |
Pre-wash | Foam lance | 1% to 5% PIR | Measure foam lance output and calculate PIR | Winter grime, traffic film | Maintenance washes | Designed for dwell cleaning, not aggressive stripping |
| Bilt Hamber Touch-Less | ![]() |
Pre-wash | Foam lance or sprayer | 0.5% to 2% PIR | Same PIR calculation | Heavy dirt, salt | Light dust, coated cars | More concentrated, designed for low PIR cleaning with shorter dwell |
| Bilt Hamber Auto Wash | ![]() |
Shampoo | Bucket | 5ml per 10L (1:2000) | Measure using cap or syringe | Heavily soiled vehicles | Regular maintenance | Excess reduces rinse quality |

APC | Pump sprayer | 1:5 to 1:30 (up to neat for extreme contamination) | Use ratio bottle | Engine bays, arches (1:5 to 1:10) | Interior, plastics (1:15 to 1:30) | Incorrect dilution can stain or leave residue |
Bilt Hamber Touch-Less vs Auto-Foam Pre-Wash Snow Foam: Bilt Hamber Touch-Less vs Auto-Foam Pre-Wash Snow Foam
| Issue | Cause (Dilution Error) | What You Will See | Surface Risk | Immediate Fix | Next Time Adjustment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Foam too thin | Too weak PIR or too much water | Runs off quickly | Low cleaning | Reapply stronger mix | Increase PIR correctly |
| Foam thick but ineffective | Too strong mix | Foam sits, dirt remains | Waste | Reduce mix | Focus on correct PIR |
| Streaking after wash | Too much shampoo | Marks after drying | Residue build-up | Rinse thoroughly | Use correct dosage |
| Interior staining | APC too strong | Patchy marks | Surface damage | Wipe immediately | Use 1:20+ |
| Poor cleaning | Too weak mix | Dirt remains | Ineffective | Reapply | Increase gradually |
| Protection reduced | Strong pre-wash mix | Loss of beading | Weakens wax or sealant | Reapply protection | Use lower strength |
| Fallout remover not working | Korrosol diluted | No colour change | No decontamination | Reapply neat | Never dilute |
| Foam dies quickly | Too much water in bottle | Weak foam, no dwell | Reduced cleaning | Refill correctly | Measure product first, then water |
| Shampoo added to foam | Mixing shampoo into snow foam | Foam looks thick but cleans poorly | Ineffective wash | Rinse and restart | Never mix shampoo with snow foam |
| Mixing products together | Combining chemicals | Unpredictable results | Surface risk | Rinse immediately | Always use products separately |
Understanding this is important because dilution behaves differently depending on the equipment you use.
Example:
Fill 1L bottle, spray full output, calculate PIR, then adjust mixture
Once dilution and PIR are understood properly, Bilt Hamber products deliver consistent, professional-level results without waste.
No. Using more product does not always improve cleaning. Most Bilt Hamber products perform best within a specific range. Overuse can reduce effectiveness and cause residue.
You can once your setup is consistent, but it is better to adjust based on dirt level, season, and protection on the vehicle.
Yes. Heavily soiled areas like engine bays need stronger mixes, while interiors and maintenance washes require much weaker dilution.
Yes. Hard water can reduce cleaning performance and affect foam behaviour. Using clean water improves consistency.
Yes. In hot conditions, products dry faster, so slightly weaker dilution and shorter dwell times are safer.
Use weaker dilution when the vehicle has wax, sealant, or ceramic protection. Strong mixes can reduce or strip protection layers.
