Cordless Machine Polishers
Cordless machine polishers take the cable off the paint, which matters more than it sounds. No lead dragging across a freshly corrected wing, no extension reel to trip over, and no hunting for a socket at a mobile job or a car meet. Battery mini polishers are the quickest way to tackle pillars, bumpers, mirror caps and door shuts, and full size cordless machines now hold their speed under load well enough for proper correction work. Most kits here ship with two batteries so you can keep working while one charges. Is a cordless polisher powerful enough for proper correction?
Full size cordless machines such as the Rupes BigFoot HLR range and the Flex PXE 80 hold their speed under load well enough for genuine correction work, not just touch ups. Brushless motors and load sensing are what changed that. Where mains machines still have the edge is sustained work across a full car, simply because you are never waiting on a battery. For spot correction, mobile jobs and tight areas, cordless is often the better tool.
How long does a battery last?
Expect roughly 30 to 50 minutes of work per pack, depending on the machine and how hard you lean on it. Most kits here ship with two batteries so one charges while you work, which in practice means you rarely stop. Charge times are typically 20 to 50 minutes, so a two battery rotation keeps you going more or less indefinitely.
Are the batteries interchangeable between machines?
Not usually, and not even always within one brand. The ShineMate EB210 and EB212 run on the 10.8V platform while the EB350 and EB351 use 18V packs, and those are not interchangeable. Check the voltage and the brand platform before buying a spare, and buy the spare at the same time as the machine if you plan to work back to back cars.
Why choose cordless over a mains polisher?
No cable dragging across paint you have just corrected, which is the reason most detailers give first. Beyond that there is no extension reel to trip over, no hunting for a socket at a mobile job or a show, and the machines are usually lighter and easier to hold at an awkward angle. The trade off is run time and, on the smaller machines, outright power.
Are cordless polishers dual action or rotary?
Both are available. Most full size cordless machines are dual action, while many of the compact ones convert between rotary and DA heads so you can pick bite or safety for the area you are working.
