For the concentrated everyday products, yes. Koch Chemie is professional body-shop chemistry sold at high concentration, so the cost per use is low even when the bottle looks premium. Green Star matched Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, ValetPRO Bilberry and Dodo Juice Deep Purple in a five-way wheel-cleaner test and dilutes anywhere from 1:5 to 1:120. Pol Star at 1:20 turns a 1L bottle into 21L of interior cleaner. Rapid Rinseless Wash won Forensic Detailing's 12-product rinseless test, helped by being the cheapest per litre on test. Which Koch Chemie products should I start with?
Start with the three that cover the most jobs: Green Star, Pol Star and FSE. Green Star is a dilutable all-purpose cleaner for wheels, arches, engine bays and exterior panels. Pol Star is the standout interior cleaner for leather, Alcantara, plastics and fabric. FSE (Finish Spray Exterior) is a drying aid that removes light water marks from paint and glass. We sell those three together as a starter bundle for exactly that reason. What do Koch Chemie's product codes and labels mean?
The codes are short abbreviations of each product's name. GSF is Gentle Snow Foam, AF is Active Foam, GS is Green Star, PO is Pol Star, PW is Protector Wax and FSE is Finish Spray Exterior. The polishes use a letter for the cut grade and a number for the formula: H for heavy cut (H8.02, H9.02), F for fine cut (F6.01), M for micro and finishing work (M3.02), and P for one-step cut-and-finish (P6.02, P3.01). What is FSE (Finish Spray Exterior) and is it safe on a ceramic coating?
FSE is a finishing spray with a mild acid, used as a drying aid and a light water-mark remover on paint and glass. You spray it onto a freshly rinsed, wet car and rinse or wipe it through as you dry, which clears the faint mineral spotting hard water leaves behind and adds a little slickness and gloss. Used as directed it works fine over an existing wax, sealant or ceramic coating as a maintenance topper. Because it is mildly acidic it is not a heavy-duty cleaner, so don't overwork it or lean on it as your only product on a freshly applied coating. For established limescale or etching, step up to a dedicated acid treatment.
Is Gentle Snow Foam (GSF) safe on wax and ceramic coatings?
Yes. Gentle Snow Foam is pH-neutral, so it will not strip wax, sealant or a ceramic coating, which is exactly why it suits a maintenance wash on a protected car. The trade-off is that a pH-neutral foam is gentle by design: it lays down thick clinging foam and lifts loose grit, but it does far less chemical cleaning than an alkaline pre-wash, so the pressure-wash rinse does most of the work. If you add Green Star to the foam to boost its cleaning power the mix becomes alkaline and will strip wax and sealant, so only do that on an unprotected car.
What dilution should I use for Green Star?
Green Star is an alkaline all-purpose cleaner that dilutes across a wide range depending on the job. As a working guide: around 1:5 to 1:10 for heavy soiling such as engine bays and stubborn arches, roughly 1:20 to 1:30 for general exterior and wheel cleaning, and up to 1:120 for light floor and surface work. Always start at the weaker end and step up only if you need to. Two things worth knowing: it foams well and leaves little residue inside a car, which is why many detailers prefer it to Surfex HD for interiors, and it is not coating-safe at wash strength, so keep it off freshly coated paint unless heavily diluted.
ProtectorWax (PW) or FSE: which protection should I use, and how long does it last?
Use ProtectorWax when you want to add protection and beading, and FSE when you want a quick drying aid. ProtectorWax is a spray-on, rinse-off wax: dilute around 30ml into 1L, apply it through a foam lance onto a wet car, then rinse off. It leaves a genuine wax layer with gloss and water beading, and detailers like it because it goes on fast and forgivingly without streaking. FSE adds far less protection and is really a finishing and water-mark spray. In our testing ProtectorWax lasts around 6 to 8 weeks before the beading drops off, so it gives real protection rather than just a drying-aid gloss, and you reapply every month or two to keep it topped up.
Which Koch Chemie wheel cleaner should I use, and is it safe on all wheels?
Magic Wheel Cleaner is the one to reach for, and it is safe on all common wheel finishes including painted, polished, anodised, chrome and coated. It is acid-free, which is what makes it rim-safe, and it is iron-reactive, so it bleeds red as it dissolves brake dust and fallout. Spray it onto cool, dry wheels, let it dwell until it turns red, agitate and rinse. When fallout is heavy enough that a normal wheel cleaner won't shift it, Magic Wheel Cleaner doubles as your decontamination step before you would ever reach for a wheel acid. For fallout across the whole car rather than just the wheels, use Reactive Rust Remover.
Koch Chemie polishes (H9, H8, F6, M3): which one do I need?
Match the polish to how bad the defects are. For heavy scratches and serious correction use Heavy Cut H9.02 or H8.02, which remove deeper marks down to around P1200 sanding scratches. For moderate swirls and lighter correction use Fine Cut F6.01, which clears around P2500 marks. For final gloss, hologram removal and finishing on softer paint use Micro Cut M3.02. If you don't know the paint or want a single pass, start with a one-step like P6.02 or P3.01, which cut and finish together. Always pair the compound with the matching pad and test a small section first.
What's the difference between Gentle Snow Foam, Active Foam and Super Foam?
The difference is pH, and pH drives cleaning power. Gentle Snow Foam is pH-neutral, so it is coating-safe but gentle, best as a thick maintenance foam on a car that is already clean or protected. Active Foam is mildly alkaline at around pH 9.5, so it cuts more traffic film and suits regular winter maintenance washing. Super Foam is strongly alkaline and the most aggressive of the three for heavy soiling.
