Frequently asked questions

Where does glass cleaning fit in the full car detailing sequence?
Clean glass last in the full detail sequence, after the wash and decontamination, so there is no bonded contamination left to smear across the surface. For interior work, glass is also the final step inside the cabin: complete every other surface first, then go back over the screens and shiny trim with a glass-cleaner-primed towel so nothing re-smears what you have just cleaned.
How do I remove the oily haze that builds up on the inside of my windscreen?
The film comes from plasticisers outgassing from the dashboard and trim. A standard glass cleaner alone smears it rather than lifts it. One effective method is to use a small window-cleaner squeegee with warm soapy water: wring the squeegee until damp, drag in one continuous top-to-bottom stroke, then finish with a dedicated glass cloth (not a standard microfibre, which lints). Towels under the dashboard catch drips.
What causes streaky glass after cleaning, and how do I fix it?
Streaks after cleaning are almost always caused by contamination that the glass cleaner cannot shift, not by the cleaner itself. Clay bars cannot remove it either. The correct fix is a dedicated glass polish such as Bilt Hamber Re-View, CarPro Ceriglass, or Tac System Glass Polish, which physically removes the contamination layer that is causing the smear.
Should I spray glass cleaner directly onto the car glass?
No. For interior glass, spray the glass cleaner onto the cloth rather than onto the glass. Detergents and solvents sprayed directly near suede, Alcantara, or door-card fabric can permanently stain those materials. The product does not need to dwell on glass, so applying it to the cloth is just as effective and much safer for surrounding trim.
When should I use a glass polish rather than just a glass cleaner?
Use a glass polish when a cleaner leaves streaks despite correct technique, when the glass feels rough to the touch after washing, before applying any glass sealant or coating (to ensure bare, contamination-free glass for proper bonding), or when the windscreen has wiper-blade haze from years of grit scoring. Cleaning removes surface dirt; polishing removes embedded contamination and old protective layers.
