Can I apply a spray sealant on top of an existing wax or ceramic coating?
Yes. A spray sealant works well as a sacrificial topper over a wax or ceramic coating. It takes the wear from road contamination and washing so the base protection underneath lasts longer. Koch Chemie Protector Wax and Gyeon WetCoat are commonly used this way over ceramic coatings, refreshed every few months or when beading starts to drop off.
Should I spray a spray sealant directly onto the panel or onto my cloth?
Spray it onto your microfibre applicator or towel, not directly onto the paint. Spraying directly onto a panel risks drops landing on adjacent areas and leaving stubborn marks, particularly in cooler conditions when the product flashes more slowly. Applying to the applicator first also gives more even coverage across the panel.
Why is my spray sealant streaking?
The most common cause is residual contamination or product on the paint surface. Run a panel-prep wipe on the affected panels before continuing. Also try buffing the product off a little earlier rather than letting it dwell longer. Sealants are more sensitive to surface contamination than quick detailers, and in warm conditions product residue dries faster and becomes harder to buff cleanly.
Can I use a foamed rinse-off sealant in cold or winter conditions?
Foamed spray-rinse sealants are well suited to autumn through early spring. Below around 5 degrees C, conventional waxes and sealants struggle to cure and can streak. A foamed rinse-off sealant such as Gyeon WetCoat (applied panel by panel and rinsed off) works in these conditions where traditional wipe-on products would not cure reliably.
